Sri Lanka, Aug. 14 -- Large-scale renovations of the Parliament of Sri Lanka have commenced for the first time in more than four decades, under the guidance of Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne and with Cabinet approval.
The refurbishment of the Parliamentary Complex, built in 1982, includes removing the soil layer on the concrete roof terrace, repairing roof gutters, restoring the copper door, and upgrading the Parliament Medical Center, washrooms, and Members' Dressing Room.
While routine maintenance has previously been handled by the Parliamentary Engineering Department, this extensive renovation project is being carried out with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Army's labor contribution, the Parliament Media said.
