Colombo, March 24 -- Attention was given to short-term measures to minimise delays in disbursing the Mahapola allowance for first-year students in 2025, as well as steps to ensure timely payments for students in other years.

The Deputy Minister also said the importance of modernizing the computerized data system for Mahapola scholarship recipients as part of a long-term initiative.

The discussion was attended by University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman and Senior Professor Kapila Seneviratne, along with officials from the UGC and the Mahapola Trust Fund.
