Sri Lanka, Jan. 12 -- The low-pressure area located over the Gulf of Mannar is weakening further and moving away from the island, Department of Meteorology said yesterday.

The department said the impact of the system on the island's weather is continuing to decrease.

Meanwhile, light showers were forecasted over the Northern, North-Central, Uva, and Eastern provinces during the coming days.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at several locations elsewhere on the island during evening or night.

Misty conditions are expected in some places within the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts in the early hours of the morning.
