Sri Lanka, July 28 -- The Locomotive Operating Engineers' Union (LOEU) has announced a 48-hour islandwide token strike starting tomorrow (29), over unresolved issues related to signal system malfunctions and delays in grade-based promotions.

LOEU President K.A.U. Kondasinghe told reporters that the decision was made due to the authorities' continued failure to address these concerns.

He said the union had repeatedly raised these issues, particularly the faulty signal systems that affect daily operations and safety, but no effective solutions have been provided.

The strike is expected to impact train services across the country.
