Srilanka, March 21 -- Nearly 425 nomination papers have been rejected in this year's local government election nominations.

According to Commissioner General of Elections Saman Sri Ratnayake, nominations were accepted in 25 districts from March 17 to 12 noon on March 20.

"A total of 2,900 groups submitted nominations for 336 local government bodies. Of these, around 2,260 groups were nominated by political parties," he said.

The German woman who was set to contest the upcoming Local Government Elections in the Matale District is also among individuals whose nominations were rejected.
