Colombo, April 10 -- There are currently more than 23,170 vacancies in the police and 2,076 in the STF, Minister of Public Security Ananda Wijepala told Parliament today.

Referring to an oral question raised by MP Rohana Bandara, the Minister said efforts are being made to fill the vacancies as soon as possible.

Also the Minister revealed that promotions in the police service is held up because of 100 pending cases before the Supreme Court.
