Colombo, Dec. 29 -- The Kandy Municipal Council has decided to remove all pavement hawkers in the city after December 31. Mayor of Kandy Chandrasiri Wijenayake said the decision to remove payment hawkers had been taken in June this year, but they were given time till December 31 on sympathetic grounds. He said the pavement hawkers have been provided space in alternative locations but they attempt to occupy the pavements. He stressed that this decision would not be reversed since the power in the Municipal Council, the President and the Parliament is held by the National People's Power.
