Sri Lanka, Dec. 23 -- Opposition MP Mujibur Rahman, commenting on the defeat of the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) budget, stated that the Joint Opposition will take over the CMC immediately.

"The mayor will become a puppet when the Joint Opposition takes over the CMC," he told the media.

"The opposition would have taken over the CMC at the beginning if the vote for electing the mayor had been an open vote instead of a secret ballot," he added.
