Srilanka, May 6 -- A student of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura was taken into custody yesterday morning by the Homagama police, following investigations into a complaint of causing grievous injuries to a fellow student.

Investigations revealed that the victim, a third-year student from Matara, had been severely assaulted by a group of fellow students.

Police said that seven other individuals involved in the incident are yet to be arrested.

According to the police, the assault took place at a hostel in the Pitipana area, allegedly because the victim had expressed views against ragging in universities.
