Sri Lanka, Jan. 28 -- The Inspector General of Police (IGP) and four other senior police officials including the Ratnapura Senior DIG, Embilipitiya SSP, Embilipitiya ASP and the OIC of the Embilipitiya Police have been summoned to appear before the Ratnapura office of the Human Rights Commission on February 03 in connection with a human rights petition against them.
Petitioner PC Hettiarachchige Susantha Weerasinghe of the Suriyakanda Police is under interdiction at present. He has stated that the respondent officials have violated his fundamental rights guranteed by the Constitution.
He had been interdicted over the alleged assault on Ratnapura District Parliamentarian Shantha Padmakumara.
