Sri Lanka, Sept. 18 -- Heavy rains are expected in several parts of the country today, with showers or thundershowers forecast at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Northern and Northwestern provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts.

According to the Department of Meteorology, fairly heavy showers of around 75 mm are likely in some areas of the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Northern provinces, and in the Galle and Matara districts. Showers or thundershowers are also expected in other parts of the island after 1.00 p.m.
