Srilanka, Feb. 25 -- Heated arguments erupted in Parliament today with ruling party MP Gamagedara Dissanayake and Opposition MP Rohini Kaviratne coming up with murder charges during the 1989 insurrection.

The argument erupted when MP Kaviratne accused MP Gamagedara of making a false claim that her father, a former Minister, had murdered eight persons while campaigning for the general elections of 1989.

"My father never murdered anyone as he was not out of his mind," Ms. Kaviratne said.

MP Gamagedara, who responded, questioned as to who was involved in the mass killing of 140 youth in Matale during 1989. A probe is being carried out on this and it will be disclosed soon as to who was behind these killings," he said.
