Sri Lanka, May 30 -- Health officials urge individuals with chronic illnesses to take extra precautions against Chikungunya as it can lead to serious health issues.

Prof. Arjuna De Silva, speaking during a media programme, noted that 27 diseases are monitored under the health surveillance process and the trend has been decreasing with weekly monitoring.

He said that elderly individuals over 45, particularly those with chronic arthritis, diabetes, and lung conditions, as well as children, are at greater risk of infection.

Meanwhile, medical experts strongly advise against self-medication and recommend taking only two Paracetamol tablets when necessary, under proper guidance.
