Sri Lanka, July 17 -- The owner of the Hambantota Bird Park has been arrested over the illegal import of luxury motorcycles into Sri Lanka, police said.

The suspect, who had been evading the police for several days, was taken into custody in Colombo and is to be produced before court today.

Earlier, police seized 21 illegally imported motorcycles - including eight luxury bikes and four tricycle-type motorcycles - from a warehouse located within the bird park premises.

The park's manager and warehouse supervisor were previously arrested in connection with the case and have been remanded till July 25.
