Sri Lanka, Sept. 1 -- A Grama Niladhari officer attached to the Siyambalanduwa area was ordered to be remanded till September 12 by Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama.
She is accused of accepting a cupboard worth Rs. 23,000 as a bribe from a landowner in Siyambalanda, in order to issue a permit to cut down 18 teak trees located on the land.
The suspect was arrested and produced before court following a complaint lodged with the Bribery Commission by the landowner.
Presenting facts before court, the Bribery Commission informed that when the complainant had approached the Grama Niladhari to obtain the necessary permit to remove the 18 teak trees, she had demanded a cupboard valued at Rs. 23,000 as a bribe.
