Sri Lanka, Dec. 27 -- The government will provide Rs. 500,000 to each household affected by the Ditwah cyclone without conducting individual damage assessments, Minister of Public Security Ananda Wijepala said.
Speaking at a "Praja Shakthi" awareness programme at the Kobeigane Divisional Secretariat, the Minister said detailed evaluations for over 120,000 partially damaged homes could take up to a year, delaying relief.
Families preferring a formal assessment can opt out, in which case compensation will be based on the assessed damage, which could reach several million rupees.
This measure aims to ensure prompt financial support for affected households.
