Sri Lanka, Jan. 24 -- The government has decided to hold the State Vesak festival on May 30 following a request by the Mahanayake Theras of the four Chapters, Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government, Prof. Chandana Abeyratne said today.
He told reporters after visiting the Mahanayake Thera that the Mahanayake Theras of the four Chapters had requested the President to reconsider revising the date of Vesak in 2026 because there are two full-moon days in May.
The Minister said the Poya Committee had previously decided on May 1 as the Vesak Poya Day and said that the Poya Committee that was reconvened decided to hold the State Vesak festival on May 30.
