Colombo, Feb. 28 -- The government is planning to arm the tri-forces with modern technology rather than manpower, going with the global trend, NPP MP Major General (Rtd.) G.D. Sooriyabandara said today.

Speaking during the committee stage debate of the Defence Ministry, he told Parliament that the global trend is to equip the armed forces with modern technology rather than manpower.

He said that it is clearly visible in the war between Russia and Ukraine how new technology is being used.

The MP said the government is expecting to equip the tri-forces with modern technology in the future and function as a professional army.
