Sri Lanka, Feb. 3 -- The government is holding discussions on allowing vehicle imports for high-ranking government officials who have received vehicle permits on their retirement, Deputy Minister of Economic Development Nishantha Jayaweera said today.

He told Parliament that 1,900 permits have been issued so far under the scheme introduced for granting motor vehicle permits to high-ranking government officials on a concessional basis upon their retirement.

Responding to a question raised by MP Dayasiri Jayasekara, the Deputy Minister said issuing vehicle permits under the said scheme has not been stopped and that some 563 such permits have been issued in 2025.
