Sri Lanka, April 23 -- Veteran journalist and founding writer, sub editor and columnist of the Daily Mirror Louis Benedict passed away on April 22. Louis celebrated his 77 birthday on April 9.
While still a teen, he joined the famous 'The Sun' and 'Weekend' newspapers as a sports reporter in 1966. As a teen, Louis served Sri Lanka's media for nearly six decades as writer, sub editor and a strong voice for the voiceless. Having served as sports editor, foreign news editor, chief sub-editor and senior deputy editor of the two now defunct newspapers, Louis joined our sister newspaper the Sunday Times in 1991, and also worked as a sub editor for the then 'Mid-week Mirror' (1996) which later changed to a daily, 'Daily Mirror'.
