Sri Lanka, Oct. 31 -- The Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) has temporarily suspended the island-wide strike that was scheduled to begin at 8.00 a.m. today, following successful discussions with health authorities.

In a statement, the GMOA said the decision was made after a special meeting held last night (30) with Health Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, the Director General of Health Services, and representatives of the association.

During the discussions, it was agreed to suspend the controversial transfer of doctors that the Health Ministry had attempted to implement outside the accepted procedure. Instead, the transfers will now be carried out according to the standard methodology and within a set time frame.
