Sri Lanka, July 16 -- Former United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) member of the Weligepola Pradeshiya Sabha, Kodithuwakku Arachchilage Wasantha, alias Alibaby, has been sentenced to death.

The order was delivered by Embilipitiya High Court Judge Buddhika Sri Ragala.

He was convicted after being found guilty of assuating and murdering a 27-year-old youth in the Hatangala area of Weligepola in 2012.

Wasantha had contested the recent Local Government elections for the Weligepola Pradeshiya Sabha under the Sarvajana Balaya Party but was not elected.
