Sri Lanka, July 22 -- Shan Yahampath Gunaratne, former private secretary to ex-Labor and Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara, was arrested today by officers from the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.

Gunaratne is accused of soliciting money from an institution that submitted a proposal to conduct an external training workshop for officials of the Foreign Employment Bureau. He is alleged to have improperly interfered in the procurement process and accepted a bribe of Rs. 4.3 million from the selected institution.

The suspect is to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court.
