Srilanka, May 15 -- Former Chairman of the Land Reclamation and Development Corporation, Prasad Harshan De Silva, was arrested today by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption in connection with the alleged misappropriation of Rs. 27.6 million.
The Bribery Commission said that the arrest is linked to an ongoing investigation into the selection of an institution outside standard procurement procedures for the opening ceremony of a project implemented under the Corporation.
It is alleged that Rs. 27.6 million in project funds were used for the ceremony, despite no budgetary allocation for such an event, causing a financial loss to the government.
He will be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court...
