Sri Lanka, Dec. 11 -- Former Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal was released on conditions in connection with the Greek bond case, while the three other accused were released unconditionally by Colombo High Court Judge Mohammed Mihal yesterday.
The allegations centered on the claim that, despite Greece being in a severe economic crisis, the former Central Bank officials knowingly purchased government issued treasury bills, causing a loss of over Rs. 1.84 billion to the government. The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) had filed the case against Cabraal, former Deputy Governor Dharmasena Dheerasinghe and Assistant Governors Don Vasantha Ananda Silva and M.A. Karunaratne.
