Sri Lanka, April 9 -- People in Batticaloa town lit firecrackers yesterday to express their happiness over the arrest of Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal (TMVP) leader and former Eastern Province Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan, also known as Pillayan.
Pillayan was arrested yesterday at the party headquarters on Vavunikarai Road in Batticaloa by officers from the Colombo Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and was taken to Colombo.
The celebratory firecrackers reflected public reaction following the arrest.
