Colombo, March 11 -- The Supreme Court today issued notices to former President Maithripala Sirisena, requiring him to show cause for his failure to pay the compensation awarded to the victims of the Royal Park murder case.
President's Counsel Sanjeeva Jayawardena appearing for the petitioner informed court that the former President had failed to pay the Rs. 1 million compensation ordered by the Supreme Court last year.
Considering the facts presented, a three-judge bench of the Supreme Court, comprising Justices S. Thurairaja, Yasantha Kodagoda and Janak de Silva, issued show cause notices to the former President, returnable for April 29.
