Colombo, March 20 -- Sri Lanka has raised concerns about the darker side of social media, highlighting its negative impact on mental health and well-being.
Consultant Psychiatrist Dr. Rumi Ruben, speaking to the Daily Mirror revealed that both children and adults can become addicted to violent or sexual content spread on social media, which gradually leads to negative effects.
He stated that social media affects people in different ways, causing children to become addicted and spend more time on it, which can lead to memory problems.
Ruben highlighted that social media exposes individuals to extreme and antisocial cultures, which can contribute to suicides and violent behaviour.
