Sri Lanka, Dec. 19 -- Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya today assured that the Executive Presidency will be abolished as promised in the National People's Power (NPP) manifesto.

The Prime Minister told Parliament that the Executive Presidency will be abolished through the proposed new Constitution.

Responding to a question on Standing order 27/2 raised by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, she said preliminary work towards drafting a new Constitution has already started and added that previous committee reports and other proposals for drafting a new Constitution are being studied at the moment.
