Sri Lanka, Aug. 29 -- Steps have been taken to introduce electric boats to collect waste on the Beira Lake, which can collect up to 3,000 kgs of floating solid waste every day, Western Province Governor Hanif Yusoof said.



He said in a post on X that the first trials of electric waste collecting boats on the Beira Lake was started last week.

"Last week, we started the first trials of electric waste collecting boats on the Beira Lake. These fully electric, solar powered boats can collect up to 3,000 kgs of floating solid waste every day. We will soon be launching up to four boats on the Beira Lake. This is one of many projects we will soon be launching to permanently restore and revive the lake," he said.
