Sri Lanka, Dec. 27 -- The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) says it has taken necessary preparedness measures in view of a predicted increase in rainfall from the Monday (29), as forecast by the Meteorology Department.
DMC Director Major General (Retd) Sampath Kotuwegoda said that relevant authorities, including the tri-services, Police and the Department of Civil Defence, have been informed to remain on alert. Naval troops, aircraft and boats have also been readied in line with emergency response plans.
According to the Meteorology Department, a wave-like wind flow has developed over the eastern region, which is expected to cause above-normal rainfall in the Northern, North Central, Central, Eastern and Uva provinces.
