Sri Lanka, June 3 -- The government has initiated discussions with China, Iran and several African countries to export locally manufactured brown sugar as a variety of organic sugar, Minister of Industries Sunil Handunnetti said today.
He told Parliament that there is a high demand for organic sugar in the world market and that brown sugar manufactured in Sri Lanka is high in organic percentage.
Responding to a question by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, he said the move to export brown sugar is one option to raise the revenue of the sugar factories.
