Sri Lanka, Aug. 27 -- Former Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Deshabandu Tennakoon, who was arrested in connection with the attack on peaceful protesters at Galle Face on May 9, 2022, was released on bail today.

Colombo Fort Magistrate Nilupuli Lankapura granted him bail with two sureties of Rs. 1 million each and imposed a travel ban.

Tennakoon was produced before court via Zoom while being held at Dumbara Prison.

The Magistrate further clarified that Tennakoon is not the 33rd suspect in the case, but the 37th, while the 33rd suspect is Liyanad Mendis.
