Sri Lanka, July 11 -- Sri Lanka hopes to go for a bilateral trade agreement with the USA on or before August 1, Deputy Minister of Economic Development Anil Jayantha hinted in Parliament today.

"What the US government has stated in its courtesy letter is that a 30 percent tax will be levied on Sri Lankan exports if Sri Lanka fails to enter into a bilateral trade agreement before August 1. Therefore, the Sri Lankan government will continue the dialogue with the US to obtain further tax concessions before August 1," the Deputy Minister said.
