Sri Lanka, Dec. 19 -- The Health and Mass Media Ministry has taken steps to suspend Dr. Rukshan Bellana, who served as the Deputy Director of the Colombo National Hospital.

A formal letter has been issued under the Ministry's letterhead stating that preliminary investigations revealed Dr. Bellana, as a government medical officer in a responsible position, made statements to the media without prior approval. These statements, published through various media outlets, reportedly created controversy and unrest among the public.

The Ministry further noted that appropriate disciplinary action will be taken in due course regarding the matter.
