Sri Lanka, Aug. 25 -- The Democratic Party has expressed deep concern over the arrest of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, warning that it signals a dangerous trend of "vindictive and destructive politics" in Sri Lanka.

Issuing an official statement, the Party said Sri Lanka's democracy, despite being stronger than many in the region, continues to face the challenge of political revenge.

"Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe's arrest, as predicted by a YouTuber, is deeply concerning. Such actions reflect a disturbing trend that undermines our institutions and future. Sri Lanka deserves a politics of reason and stability," the statement read.
