Sri Lanka, Dec. 27 -- A decision must be taken regarding several schools in the Central Province that are at risk of landslides, the National Building Research Organization (NBRO) said.
NBRO Director General Eng. Dr. Asiri Karunawardena said that recent risk assessment inspections have identified several schools in the Nuwara Eliya and Matale districts as being directly exposed to landslide hazards following adverse weather conditions.
He said engineering technology could be used to stabilize some of the affected school premises, while education authorities have been informed about schools where such measures are not feasible and alternative decisions are required.
