Srilanka, Feb. 21 -- The Colombo High Court today rejected the preliminary objections raised by former Governor of the Central Bank, Ajith Nivard Cabraal and four others in connection with a case involving the purchase of Treasury Bills in 2012.

The defence had challenged the maintainability of the indictments filed against them. However, Colombo High Court Judge R.S.S. Sapuvida ruled to proceed with the indictments after dismissing the preliminary objections raised by the defence.

The Bribery Commission had filed indictments against five accused for causing a loss of Rs. 1,843.3 million to the government through the purchase of Treasury Bills in 2012. The matter was fixed for April 4.
