Sri Lanka, Jan. 19 -- Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said today that he could have saved the life of former Minister Nandana Gunatileke if he had been informed of his condition earlier.

"I was informed by a friend living abroad about Nandana Gunatileke's condition. By then, he had already been transferred from Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital to the Ragama Hospital. I would have done more to save his life if I had known about his condition earlier," Premadasa said after paying his last respects to the late politician.

"Late Gunatileke was a controversial figure," he added.
