Sri Lanka, June 6 -- A major duty free liquor selling racket carried out in a luxury residence in Colombo was busted by the Excise Department of Sri Lanka yesterday, in line with the government tax week and seized imported spirits worth over Rs.7.5 million.
Officials of the Colombo City Excise office on a tip off raided a residence in Narahenpita area and seized 337 bottles of a range of foreign liquor amounting to 337, 000 milliliters along with a suspect.
According to Excise sources, the racket had been carried out involving several airport duty free liquor shops, where the perpetrators leaked the goods to be sold in the local market after storing in the Colombo residence.
