Srilanka, March 30 -- Former Public Security Minister Tiran Alles has been summoned to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to record a statement regarding the death of a police sergeant from the Colombo Crimes Division during a shooting incident near a hotel in Weligama, Matara in 2023.

Police said that the former Minister has been summoned to the CID on Monday (31) for a statement to be recorded regarding the incident.

Earlier, the Matara Magistrate's Court ordered the arrest of seven police officers including IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon over a shooting incident that took place in front of the W15 Hotel in the Pelena area in Weligama, Matara, on December 31, 2023.
