Sri Lanka, Sept. 5 -- The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has been flooded with 60,000 complaints and the government is considering reducing the number of complaints received to the CID as it is difficult for the department to handle such a large number of complaints, Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala said yesterday.
The Minister said in a move to reduce the burden on the CID, some complaints will be referred to the newly established Central Crimes Investigation Bureau (CCIB) under the supervision of the Inspector General of Police.
He said the CCIB has been empowered to conduct any investigation or raid.
