Sri Lanka, June 2 -- Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Dr. Kavinda Jayawardene, who is infected with Chikungunya, called upon all parties for quick and effective action while shedding politics aside to halt the spread of the disease.

"I am in hospital after having been infected with Chikungunya. I see parties fighting to establish administrations in Local Government bodies. I feel that attention should be made on preventing the spread of Chikungunya and Dengue," the MP told the Daily Mirror.

"There is a plot of land stagnated with water next to the hospital in Colombo where I am warded. The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) seems to be neglecting its duty and failing to clean vulnerable areas," he said.
