Sri Lanka, Dec. 3 -- The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has urged the public not to switch on electricity supply in homes affected by recent flooding until proper safety checks are completed.

In a safety notice issued today, the CEB warned that even after floodwaters recede, mud and moisture can remain inside plug bases, plug tops, sockets, and switches. Turning on the electricity in such conditions could lead to electric shocks or fires.

The CEB advised households not to turn on the main switch or trip switch under any circumstances immediately after water levels go down. Officials also noted that although walls may appear dry from the outside, electrical wiring inside could still be damp.
