Bangladesh, July 31 -- The Central Environmental Authority (CEA) has requested all devotees attending the Kandy Esala Perahera to properly dispose of waste and avoid bringing plastic items into the city during the festival, which will take place from July 30 to August 10, 2025.

Officials said the event, which draws large crowds annually, generates a considerable volume of solid waste each day, with plastic waste being particularly prominent. Among the most common items discarded are wax paper sheets used by spectators to sit on while watching the procession.

The CEA is urging the public to seek eco-friendly alternatives for such items and to either dispose of them responsibly or take them back home after use.
