Sri Lanka, Nov. 24 -- CCTV cameras will be fixed on public transport, including school vans, to prevent gender based violence, Minister of Transport Bimal Ratnayake told Parliament today.
"These precautions were decided upon as no one is prepared to defend victims of gender based violence because of the cruelty in society," the Minister said.
"Women MPs and female staff in Parliament are wearing orange today to mark the day against gender based violence. However, I see these orange colour as the signal in traffic lights. We may have to switch the red light on against gender based violence soon," he added.
