Sri Lanka, July 23 -- The Constitutional Council today approved the name of Supreme Court judge Preethi Padman Surasena as the new Chief Justice.

Justice Surasena's name was nominated by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake for the post. He becomes the 49th Chief Justice of Sri Lanka.
