Colombo, April 8 -- The Cabinet has granted its approval to increase the minimum wage for private sector employees with effect from April 1, 2025.
Accordingly, the monthly minimum wage will rise from the current Rs. 17,500 to Rs. 27,000. Correspondingly, the daily minimum wage will increase from Rs. 700 to Rs. 1,080.
Further, the Cabinet Paper has also proposed a second phase of wage increases.
From January 1, 2026, the monthly minimum wage is expected to be raised to Rs. 30,000, while the daily minimum wage will increase to Rs. 1,200.
