New Delhi, Sept. 4 -- The Cabinet has approved the closure and liquidation of 33 non-operational government enterprises.
Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said the process will be done in two stages.
The decision was taken at the Cabinet meeting held yesterday.
The statement noted that various entities, including statutory bodies, state corporations, and state-owned companies that neither contribute effectively to the national economy nor provide adequate public services, have become a burden on the government. Accordingly, it has been deemed appropriate to shut down such institutions.
