Sri Lanka, Nov. 25 -- The Cabinet has approved the procurement of 3,000,000 inactivated doses of rabies vaccine (0.5 ml/1 ml) for human use, valued at Rs. 360 million (excluding VAT).

The procurement process was conducted through international competitive bidding, with four bids received. Following the recommendations of the high-level standard procurement committee and the Procurement Appeal Board, the contract was awarded to Citihealth Imports (Pvt) Ltd, with the vaccines manufactured by Serum Institute of India (Pvt) Ltd.

The vaccines are intended for the prevention of rabies, strengthening public health measures against the disease in Sri Lanka.
